Thanks guys! I will absolutely be visiting and downloading. I forgot I was already a member of the Yahoo Metal Shapers group, and there is a lot there too.

Well after only a few hours of cleaning, TLC, oil, and only honing the toolkit that was already on the shaper, I have already been able to make some really nice cuts! I am surprised! I can only imagine what I'll be able to do when I grind some proper bits like the ArtfulBodger's site shows!

This steel angle is going to be a magnetic indicator "table" on the 10L carriage. There are bolt holes there for the taper attachment or something. It is cutting very "gummy" in the mill. I will figure it out, but for now I thought I'd try it on the Shaper- it is coming out pretty nice!

You can see the fly cutter marks on here:

I am surprised it will make the whole cut- 8-1/4 inches- but it fits, and cuts with room to spare!

Bernie,,,,,,,,, finish is all in the way in way your grinder feels. Make sure your grinder aint got a cold or a headacke I knew you would!1!!!!

here is a manual for the shaper, its the same as mine.. though mine is missing its pawl. I might be asking for a picture and some measurements after i get settled.

Bernie,

Congrats on the great tool score. I think it qualifies for a Gloat or maybe even two. And a shaper is such a fun machine to watch when they are running, I just lov all the motion and activity for some reason. Good luck and have some fun with it too!!!!

What a nice little shaper. I've looked for small ones in my area, but as yet I have not been able to bring myself to pay the price they are bringing out here on the west coast. I've got two larger antique shapers, a 16" Steptoe and a 12" Whipp. I've cut quite a lot of metal on the Steptoe, and the Whipp is still in the project state.
