I have one of these millers that I like very much but I am in need of one of the small brass check valves in the lube system. I was hoping some had or knows of one of these machines that is in the scrap heap. I have searched high and low for a duplicated of this check valve with no success. The best I came up with was through Grainger but its back pressure is too low to balance out the system. I will entertain all suggestions.
Thanks for reading,
Russell

I am not familiar with the terms Bijur or Trabon. I will work on getting some pics but mine is very unique. In actuality you may not ever recognize it when you see it. You see, we had a traffic accident bringing it home and it ruined the trailer and tore the head off the miller. We got it home and I thought it was going to be a very expensive boat anchor for quite a while. The dovetail ways were just ripped off. However, enough good night sleeps yielded a plan to bring it back to live with a rigid support for the head. I was able to actual raise the head so that more would fit under it like a 12" rotary table. I did loose the "drill press" feature but I can still get things done. This unit was originally set up for shop production. The X axis was run by air pistons. There was no provision for hand wheels so I modified it for that and then motorized it. At least the knee and table survived the accident. The automatic oiler was actually dual powered. There is an electrical solenoid and a manual handle to pump the oil. It goes to a manifold for distribution. I will try to get some pics this week.

It sounds like your machine is equipped with a automatic lube system. The popular one is called a Bijur System. Trabon is another brand. I prefer to buy a LubeUSA system as the are comparable and cheaper. I am guessing the brass valve your talking about it called a Metering Unitas it meters out drops of oil per pump of the pump. Take a close look at the brass fitting and see if there is an flow direction arrow ---> and a number like FJB-2 on it. That's a popular size for milling machines. http://www.lubeusa.com/spectrum.html

Devco is super expensive. Check all 3 places and will be the best value. LubeUSA

A company I know here in Minnesota bought metering units from Devo and they paid $40.00 each...LubeUSA charged me $8.00 each last time I bought some. I have worked with Bijur type lube systems for 40 years and if you need any help shoot me a PM or call me. Rich

Senna,
Thanks so much. Had I read a little closer I would have seen the Bijur in the manual. Of course I still would have thought them defunct by now so it is good to see they are alive and well. I found in the catalog the check valves but now I have to figure out which pressure mine is rated at. I think I know where it is in my shop! :^) But then I would assume they are all equal within each system. I will keep you posted.

Thanks again to Senna and to Richard for the most helpful information. Tonight I removed one of the check valves or as they call them "flow metering units" and was able to find the exact model in the catalog. I was totally amazed. I guess they have not changed the design for 60+ years. Now to see if my local distributor will actually get them for me. I will keep you posted and also still get you some pictures.

I just found this on ebay and the individual has several different sizes of the metering valves. Might be a great deal for some.
My Reed Prentice was having some lube issues and I took some of the valves apart for cleaning and they are a true PITA. I was successful but will never do it again. Good Luck

Hi Senna,
I promised some pics of my Nichols Miller and here is my attempt to upload them. When I was taking the pics I totally forgot the focus was on the lube system so I did not take one of the pump and manifold. If you are still interested in that I will take some more.
Russ

Interesting. So you have a Nichols Miller that has a pressure lube system on it? I've never seen such a thing on a Nichols before. I'd love to see some pics of your Miller.
Is it a Bijur style system? Or is it like a Trabon system? How is it powered? Hand pump, motor, air?
I have used several different Bijur's and I presently have a motor powered one. I also have an air powered Trabon lube system on my B&S 13.

I received my Bijur metering valve and fittings. Thanks so much for the guidance. Never thought I would have found these.
