Good Morning Folks!

I have this Famco 6x12 Horizontal Bandsaw which I am having the darned'est time finding a manual for. I wrote Famco, which appears to be in business, but I'll see what I get.

Issue of the morning is it has an adjustable hydraulic feed, which is leaking (no big deal) and doesn't seem to dampen the feed until the last two inches or so.

I am sure it just needs fluid, but what type of hydraulic fluid would you put on it? Or oil? Or jack oil? Does it really matter?

I ask because of the fact the feed rate is adjustable.

Thanks for any opinions or info here!

Mind showing us a picture of this machine :)

You got it Rich!

:)

I am actually going to post a series of pics showing how I got the 460lb machine out of the back of my truck alone, without a hoist :)

... But for my purpose here, this is a pic of it in the driveway:

And one of the plate:

Here is a pic of the feed piston in question:

Here is screen capture of the only literature I found:

All the necessary lubricants are listed in the plate EXCEPT the fluid that goes in the feed piston.

That's a nice saw and a very well built guide setup. My saw had a problem with the cylinder too , I added some jack oil and it helped but getting it full without air was the fix. I just worked the head up and down with one of the lines in a container of oil till full. There was no other way to fill it on mine. It's a different brand of saw. :dunno:

Thanks Bill

I will try that. It probably doesn't matter much which oil I use, as there is a valve there anyway, I can adjust it.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Hmmm.. ATF sounds like an interesting... And cheap too! :)

Hi I am new to this site. I just bought a Famco 612. do any of you know where I can get manuals? My bronze worm gear is out. no oil in gear box. I am going to move on to a new style gear box if I cannot find a replacement gear. Any help would be appreciated.

Identical to my old Marvel.
Those saws weigh about 500 lbs.
You can see it next to the band sawIMG_1552.JPG

I used motor cycle shock oil in a similar unit. That's what I had and it works fine. Keep in mine irt can never be 100% full because it holds more fluid in one side than the other due to the rod being on one side.
