Kroll, you got a nice lathe. That is one of the most desirable models, and it has an Aloris QCTP on it already. If mine were a 10L that Clausing swap would not be quite the no-brainer.

I clean those things from the top down, using mostly the following:

WD40 - as a cleaner, not a lubricant. Get a gallon and a trigger spray bottle
Wheel cleaner from the auto parts store. Get the lind that 's safe for paint.
Gray Scotchbrite.
0000 steel wool.
Detailing brushes from HF - plastic, brass, stainless steel bristles

Actually, the first thing I do is drive by the coin-op car wash while it's still on the trailer and knock off 60% of the crap I don't want to take home. By the time it's home most of the water is gone, and the WD40 and compressed air chases out the rest of it. But you are probably already home with it.

After that it's removing Subassemblies and detailing them - tailstock, apron, saddle, compound etc. Wire wheel, and buffer. Usually by the time I'm done with this they don't need paint.
Lots of oil on reassembly.

By all means get that book and the felts kit.

Enjoy your new hobby

Thanks guys will do on the kit, just for giggles and grins I plug it in and I be dang it runs. The owner of the lathe said its 3phase due to the size of the beastly motor, but on the bottom side of the motor is a capacitor.I'll need a floor jack just to remove the motor. Thanks for the link to the kit,I'm going shopping----kroll
