Here are a few pictures of the stage set I built for the Miss Kentuckys Outstanding Teen Pageant held this past weekend.

My daughter won the title in 2008 & and I have been building the stage props for the pageant every year since. So this is my 6th year for making the stage set up. Each year has a different theme. This year the theme is New York City. The main center portion of the city scene is 21 feet tall and 13 ft wide. It is all made with 5 mm luan plywood and 2x2 lumber & painted w/ latex paints. I use my cad and my machining skills to design and make the props. My wife & I donate our time & all materials each year as a way of giving back to such a quality organization. We truck the props 3 hrs south of our town and set them up and work backstage during the pageant, then do the teardown and then truck the props back home.

Now that our daughter is older, she competes in the Miss Kentucky Scholarship pageant system. (This is part of the Miss America Scholarship Pageant system). She will compete in the Miss Kentucky pageant in mid July. There a lot of great young women who compete in this pageant. I will be on pins & needles cheering her on with my Nitro Glycerin tablets and defibrilator at the ready.

Very cool, and very colorful!

You should be very proud of your daughter, and she should be of you and your wife too for contributing your time all these years.

Thanks Fabrickator,
It has been great to be able to give of the talents God has given me to help support such a wonderful program.

That is real nice looking. Great work! My optometrist is a local theater fan/sponsor and has hinted around that he would be very interested in getting me interested in building props for the local theater. I put a bit of thought into it and felt it would offer some good fun work but decided that I would pass on the offer as I would very likely offend some of the more feminine males that I would be forced to interact with. I'm just an old redneck and I don't like them and I'm sure that they would not like me.

Your work confirms to me that the work would be highly interesting and fun to do. I sure enjoy your post. Thanks for taking the time to post it up.

Thanks for the PM's you guys (you know who you are) I found them to be of interest. Stage props sure strike me as work that would keep a guy interested and wanting to put in the hours of fun.
