Ok so i have had my grizzly g0602 for a couple months now .all in all excepting one somewhat minor problem with mty spindle bore not quite being 1 inch as it is supposed to be i have been pretty pleased with the machine ... up until today . ..
Today i decided to do some clean up .. wipe the ways off
Get some new clean oil on them and clean up chips in the chip pan .
And i found a issue ... the ways on the far of the machine
The edge towards the chip pan has a series of chips out of it along most of its lenght . .. i took a couple of very lousy pics and its hard to tell .. but they are there .
My question is ... whats causing this .

Grizzly wants me to box it up and send it back for replacement ... .. i feel like drownimg my sorrows in a bucket of beer at the moment ca2e4f226e59d5309087abbb114f4bfd.jpg 1b3c057c1f7fc4e51eb1fe4ebc41f983.jpg e5fc23e78f93c893f46d32b78ae71def.jpg

Ok ... maybe i need to take a nap ... but on my screen the first pic is of a guy holding a big ass fish ... i havent a clue where it came from .. i did try to post three pics .. but thats not one of mine

That is a big ass fish.:noidea:

Can't tell much from the other pictures. That sucks that they want you to send it back though.

Mike.

The ways on my mill have the same pattern as the fish.just sayin.

I am not seeing any chips in the pic. Are thay on the V's or the flats? Grizzly should be paying shipping if it is only 2 mounths old.

did the lathe come with the chips in the ways? or did they appear after use?
the saddle and ways can get chewed up in short order if one of the bits were to get between the way and the saddle during operation.

correct me if i am wrong, but i don't think the ways on the grizzly are hardened.

P.S. Nice Carp...

i have a recipe on how to cook them:

1 Pre-heat oven to 350*
2 Remove entrails from fish
3 De-scale the fish
4 Prepare a 18" x 24" sheet of corrugated cardboard
5 lay fish on cardboard and put it in the oven for 35- 45 mins or until done....
6 throw cooked fish in garbage can
7 eat corrugated cardboard
8 repeat as necessary #'s 1-7

Is this something that has just happened, or is it something you just noticed?
If it just happened then something caused it.
If you just noticed it then is it really worth the hassle of returning it and being without a machine for.... "insert worst case scenario here" and then double it.
The pics are a bit fuzzy to tell how bad it really is. So, really, how bad do you think it is? From what I can tell/see, I could live with it. Its a tool. Sure, an expensive tool. But its still only a tool.

Cheers Phil

I can't see chips, just what appear to be stains from oil or coolant. Can you feel them with your fingernail?

Do those rough spots go the full length of the bed or just where the tailstock is sliding? It may be your tailstock clamp or the casting it self. That's all I can think of that may be contacting in that area.
