What A neat old machine. Any name tag or markings to help with ID?

Is that a chip tray or tool tray mounted behind it?
Never seen that before....

Thanks for sharing.

Nice lathe! The drive system looks to be a bit different than most treadle lathes. Could you show us a close up photo?

I don't have any more photos, it was pretty poor light and I only had my phone camera. I went to look at motor bikes and didn't expect to see this!
No idea about its maker.
I'd say it's a tool shelf on the back, for the size of the lathe and its power source it wouldn't need a chip tray anywhere near that big!

Hey 2volts,

I know I've seen a treadle lathe picture with a chain in the drive before, so I was looking around over at Tony's site.

Not exact, but it looks a lot like this one:

Mostly in the stand, tray and pulley/fly-wheel, but also in the crank parallel to the ways....

update: ...or maybe not, the other site doesn't show any with back-gear.

Thanks for the links, brino. It appears that using a chain to connect the treadle to the shaft was fairly common. I couldn't tell from the original photo if the driveshaft was bent or not, thought it might have a ratcheting sprocket to drive the flywheel, but apparently not...

I built a treadle lathe about 20 yrs ago, and demoed it at various harvest shows. No one seems to understand how a treadle works, they would just mash down on the treadle without any regard to where the flywheel was positioned. A ratcheting sprocket would solve that problem.
