Not sure if this is taboo or in the wrong place. Please feel free to remove or move it if necessary. I am debating whether I should sell these or not. About the time I do is about the time I will need them. I don't feel I will ever use them and the money gained would go to tooling which I need worse. They came with the lathe I bought. I know very little about them but will share what I know

R5 Phase o matic
US Motors Vari drive 3 phase 1.5 HP

Neither has been used for over 20 years possibly longer. Obviously i would test them first. What do you feel the market would bare for these items. In other words if you were me and wanted to move them in a reasonable amount of time what would you sell them for? I realize markets may vary but I have nothing to compare with as they appear apparently seldom even on Ebay. Is there even a market with the advent of VFD's etc?

Sorry lowlife, I cannot directly answer your questions on the VFD, I have never played in that arena.

However, I just had to say that steady rest is absolutely massive, how big of lathe are we talking about?

The 5 hp phase-o-matic rotary phase converter would probably get around 200 maybe 300 depending on the area, and could possibly selll it here. rpcs are great and still in used (i have one). the variable speed drive is an odd little duck, but could be used for someones lathe/bandsaw/thing. price is hard to determine for it though. but i'd guess its worth 150-250. speed range is supposed to be 480-4278 rpm (or so), but it looks like it has a gearbox so your guess is better than mine. it would be great for a clausing 5900 series... they had these silly hydraulic varispeeds with moglice bearing... mine never failed but it worried me to no end, until i sold it... then my worries went away :).

lowlife,
I know a local guy who might be interested in the RPC.
If you are interested in a sale, think about how much you think it's worth and PM your contact information.
I'll encourage him to contact you.
I don't really want to be part of the negotiations.

Yes the gentleman was going to use the vari drive on this lathe. He never completed it sadly as it turned out to be his time to leave, The adjustable mounting plate for the vari speed motor is a work of art in itself. I assumed it was because he wanted more adjustability in speed as it was before VFD's were affordable.

I thought about keeping the RPC JIC I bought something 3 phase like a drill press, grinder, etc but I doubt I would use it as I again the VFD's are cheap. I would also use the proceeds for tooling thats needed which is about everything.

I will try to put a fair price on it and contact you Daryl. I don't usually negotiate selling, I just put a very fair price on it for buyer and seller. I thought about bringing to TnT to see if they wanted to horse trade as well.

Yes the Rest is massive as is everything that came with the lathe. Nothing is "normal" sized . The gentleman used it for building and repairing hydraulic cylinders. I have tons of tools that I need to have identified. I suspect that alot of it is specific and will not be able to be named. I'm looking for a jib crane just to mount his stuff on the lathe

HyVee also serves a great breakfast!
I'm going to attempt to sneak into that coffee session and learn stuff.

I note the thread on an Enterprise 1550. A family member has one. He holds it in high regard.
If you send me your email. I will forward your email address and encourage him to coach you through any problems/questions.
He doesn't do much here at HM.

I for one would really appreciate seeing more of it!
Thanks,
