When using the quill feed hand-wheel on my mill it keeps popping out of engagement. Assuming it involves the adjustment screw on the round gizmo (tech speak :)). Before I start digging into it, was wondering if anyone here knows the adjustment procedure or what to look for if it's not an adjustment issue. Thanks, Mike

If my memory serves me well I seem to remember MRPETE222 addressing that problem in one of his videos.

Looking at the picture looks like your missing the forward reverse knob it's in the center of the hand wheel ? If that's not engaging right it Probally is the problem.

It's there, and functional, just needs a new knob. Mike

The lever that you have the flashlight hanging on is set for power down feed. The hand wheel should not be used when in power down feed mode. There is a very small set screw that controls the sensitivity of the dropout of the power down feed. It is at the bottom of the quill assembly and bears on the rod to the left of the Quill Stop Micro screw. There are three power feed settings 1 1/2, 3, and 6 thousands feed per revolution. You are set on 3. When the black quill stop knob hits the silver Micrometer nut during power feed, the micro screw will travel down, pushing the feed trip lever up (with the set screw touching the feed trip plunger) which disengages the power feed. You seem to be missing the screw/knurled knob that changes direction of the power feed from down to stop to up. My Bridgeport had this screw broken off as well (mentioned by Tubalcain). I had to remove the stub and put in a fine 10x24 tpi screw if I remember the size. To power feed down this needs to be all the way out towards you. All the way in to power back up and mid way to stop and use the hand wheel when power feed is turned off. Hope this helps. See the exploded drawing of the Quill Housing Assembly on H&S Machine's (Fort Wayne Indiana) website for the name of all the parts.

Thanks Rtindy. That explains a lot. I know just enough about my machine to be dangerous. Just kind of blundering my way to a knowledge base. Mike

Just went down and Looked at the mill and the manual that I have. According to the manual the position that the selector is in in the pic should be disengaged. Having never used the power down feed I'm not sure. I'll run it up tomorrow and see what happens. Learning something new pretty much every time I use it. Hopefully I won't break anything on the road to knowledge. I've read through the manual a few times over the last two years, but my short term retention is a little weak. :) Mike
