Recently an oil leak developed through the Low/Medium/High speed change shaft on the right of the front of the gear head. I have looked at the manual (copy from internet) and there is not enough detail to show what the seal is made of or how it is put in place. It appears that a c-clip is toward the inside of the shaft (toward inside of the head casting). I assume this is some sort of hard rubber that is pressed in from the outside of the head, perhaps with an o-ring or two for the bore and the shaft, but really do not know. I contacted Enco, who tried to help, but advised the factory in China had closed. I found a Youtube video of working on the inside of the head to replace bearings, but no detail was present in them concerning the seals or how they are installed.
I temporarily put some adhesive glue around the outside of the shaft that reduced the leak to a few drops a day, but could use some help if anyone has detail about this seal. Thanks, Bob

Don't be afraid to take it apart and inspect it! It's possible there is an o-ring that acts as a seal. I assume most of these mills share the same basic design, so you may want to look at the Grizzly G0755 (ZX-45 size) parts list.

From the diagram (part 115) it appears the seal is directly behind the lever. It's likely the only disassembly required to investigate would likely be tapping out the roll pin (part 21 in the diagram) and pulling the lever off.

Maybe you can ask someone to measure their G0755 part and compare with yours to find out if the Grizzly is a direct replacement.

Can you link to the manual and video?

I have a copy of the manual, but detail is limited. I will try Grizzley, but before I try pulling out the seal behind the lever, which may destroy it, I would like to have a replacement. I removed pin and lever to view when I then put adhesive band aid fix on it. Thanks. Bob

Contacted Grizzly..ordered seal from them. They said seal pushed in from outside up against c-clip retainer.

I take it their part matches your dimension. Glad to see you'll be leak-free!

I am not quite sure it matches the Enco, but for $3.25 it is low risk and if it doesn't work, it will give me an idea on how to make a similar seal.. Thx.

I ordered the seals from Grizzley March 4th. It is now mid June and they say they should arrive to them mid June. Still Waiting.

Just received seals. Will try them this or next week. Swamped with work now.

I have had the seals, but also several projects/orders I needed to use the mill for, so I decided to put up with the slow drip until I get ahead of this work. It occurred to me that if the seals did not work and I had trouble getting some that would, I would be up the creek without a mill. It will be some more weeks before I think I might get caught up, then will try the seals. I also found that a local machine shop has some seals, so a possible back up source also.
Thanks for asking.
Bob
