I'm looking for a 4-5" Kurt or clone... anybody have one they'd part with?

If you have not already I would set up a ebay search for 4" Kurt vise and watch regularly. That is where I got mine years ago, I rarely use it anymore having gotten a bigger mill 10 years ago and now have 6" Kurt, but I keep it for the rare time I do not want to tear down a set up and want to do some quick work on another part. If you pick up a 4" Kurt in good or better shape used you will never loose out, they hold their value. I had a good condition Clausing vise on my 8520, it was not even close to being in same league as the Kurt. Making square parts easily is why people keep buying Kurt and getting rid of their lessor vises. While not a Kurt style vise if you do smaller work a 3" 2 or 3 angle Wilton vise is very nice and leagues above most Chinese stuff. Mine was made in India, cost a lot but also makes square parts and has multi angle feature.

There used to be and maybe still is a company called Magnum, they built Kurt clones, Enco use to carry them, price was a little better than Kurt, specs about the same. I don't know what happened I don't see them in Enco sale flyer anymore, but there were alright, maybe used they would be cheaper than Kurt. I would want to inspect any vise I bought before buying or have right of return if found defective.

cheers
michael

JMCGHEE,
I see you're in Peoria. I'm over half way between Canton and Macomb out in the sticks.
Lost Creek Machine have quite a few vises. http://www.lostcreekmachine.com/
They're located in Ottawa, Illinois not too far of a drive for you.
Guy I work with has a NIB 4" vise from LMS (Chinese vise) with swivel base for around $100.
I can put you in touch with him if you'd like. Just shot me a PM if interested.
