Eyes aren't what they used to be, and was having a real hard time seeing my sights.

Had to make a mount for the Burris as I had low-mounted a Bomar previously and no factory mount was going to work.

The pistol is a Kimber I bought in 2000. Accuracy and fit/finish was so bad I basically gutted it to a bare frame and slide, fitted those to each other and proceeded from there.

Not too shabby for a kitchen table 'smith. :)

Not any different. 1.5" or better @25yds with hand loads off a sandbag (I'm the limiting factor here...trust me). All of the .45s I've built will do that, or I keep at it until it does.

I'm just able to point it more accurately now. :D

Thank you. :)

And I hope to see your shop in a few years once I get moved back down there. :D

There is a lot good to be said about just that.

Good looking piece.!

Thanks. She's a shooter, not a gun-safe queen, but no reason why shooters can't look good.

Still not quite finished, even after all these years. I'm finding these old eyes are not real good at seeing close-up work like metal checkering but need to get that finished, I want to re-do the mag funnel, and I want to build a bull barrel 10mm mag top end complete with a three-port compensator.

Like I've said before, I like to tinker with stuff. :)

I'm surprised your 2000 era Kimber was a bit loose, they built their reputation then, and I was under the impression that their quality had only recently gone down. Perhaps you just got a lemon?

Sorry, didn't see your comment until now.

Honestly, the gun out of the box was functional and reasonably accurate. But...I spent a number of years mentoring under a pretty good pistolsmith and had built/modified many a 1911 for carry/duty, USPSA, Steel Challenge, bullseye, you name it. The only 1911s I've ever handled that I felt were 'good to go' out of the box were from tuners (Wilson, Ed Brown, Clark, etc.) so more than likely the problem was my expectations. It was probably built properly to their specs, so I really shouldn't be throwing dirt at Kimber. But it did give me the excuse to tear it down and start over. :)
