Rockwell Surface Grinder

brino,

It looks more like the second one. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. It's been reconditioned and painted, so I want to give it a good going over, and see if I can date it.

The biggest drawback is that its 480 3-phase, so I either have to remotor it, or get another VFD.

I'm a little careless about a few things in my shop but I don't surface grind without dust collection.

Don't remoter it unless it's lower Voltage 3 phase, it's pretty possible the motor is capable of 230 3ph, 3ph motors are smoother, entirely necessary for a grinder, BUT since that one is belt driven I'm not sure how important that is, on the harig it's direct drive so any variance in the motor would show up in the spindle and transfer to the work.

About dust collection, in sorts I guess It's used on my harig, it has a guard at the end of the table that stops chips, it is a custom job, but I also have a vac attachment that sits right behind the wheel

Here's mine, it had a 3/4 hp 3phase motor that I replaced with a 3/4hp single phase. I added the magnetic chuck but I mostly use it with a 3 way tilting vise or uni-vise.

OK, it's mine. Right now, it's sitting in the Suburban. I had planned to grab a couple of laborers and get it set up, but that is not a happening thing. I can't even make it wiggle. So the riggers who brought me my mill are coming next week to get it out of the beast, and onto the legs. It's a few more dollars, but it's a LOT cheaper than a visit to the ER...

I bought it from a custom die shop, that looked very clean and well-run. Everything seems to move smoothly. The guy said that he completely refurbished it, and powder coated it. He did it in black. I would have prefered grey, but I guess I can repaint it if it really bothers me. It has a custom dust hood, meant to be hooked up to a double hose. That won't do me any good, so once it's inside, I'll be offering it up here.

Next will be dealing with the electrics, but again, it will have to wait.

Pictures once it's inside!

Completely refurbished means what? That it was rescraped and aligned? Or just cleaned and painted : rattle can rebuild

Also it might be of benefit to some to take pictures of the removal from the burb, seeing how riggers do it

It doesn't look like a rattle can job. I'd like to think that he went to some trouble!

Pics if possible!
