Micke's Vintage Munktell Lathe

This is how I secured the three cables on the carriage so they are not stressed at the sensor connections. No cable guide. They are kept together with tie wraps and makes a long wide bow almost to the floor and are then secured again to the frame just before the DRO.

Yes it is really convenient to use a DRO. I have it on the old Örn/Storebro lathe to and realized how helpful it is. No counting on sections and turns on hand-wheel scales and the presentation is more accurate since the DRO measure true positions (within its tolerances).

I've marked the DRO so I don't have to remember or turn wheels to see what respective display represents and that the cross feed is set for diameter readings. Perhaps it is useful since I'm not terribly young anymore :D

Thank God for tie wraps. Used some yesterday to repair threads in a plastic intake manifold. Mike

I has been a heavy vibration by the Munktell lathe from about 500 rpm and up. So now when other projects are finished I decided to find out the reason. The motor frame was suspected and stabilized but it didn't help.

It showed up that the heavy cast iron drive drum on the motor wasn't in balance. I must have done some error when i turned it. So the weight of it was reduced a lot, and the axle hole and outside was lined up carefully in the old Örn/Storebro lathe.

Now it has been tested up to 2000 rpm without any vibrations, which feels s lot better than being limited to 500 rpm.

 
Always good to figure something like that out. 500rpm would be pretty limiting. Mike
 
Yes it is much better now. The garage also got fix today so I don't need to wear outdoor gears when I work. It is an air-to-air heat pump, which makes a great difference in this climate. It also gives the possibility to cool when it is hot.

Don't know if your married or attached, but if you make it much nicer in there the wife/girlfriend will never see you. :grin: Mike
