image.jpg Hi,

Just received my new to me VN 12. Somewhere along the line the original hand wheels for the vertical axis and table feed depth, mounted on the front of the machine, went away, and were replaced with aluminum crank handles. Functions OK, but I would like to replace with original or similar hand wheels.

Anybody know what diameter these hand wheels should be? Also anybody have any for sale???

Thanks
Glenn

Hi Glenn,

Sorry I cannot help with the hand-wheels, but just wanted to say what a stout machine that looks like.
A great find!

Also I am glad to see someone taking on that big old machine!

Thanks Brino. Everything works on it. New paint job this next summer I think. Very little play in the bearings or table feeds. In fact it runs smooth as silk! No arbors or over arm support, so I need to make a few things, but overall should be great to work with.

Plenty of VN members here should be able to take some measurements for you.
Good luck on finding OEM.
I don't have a VN12.

I have a 8" I bought for a project that I don't need I got it from Grizzly a couple of weeks ago. You can have it for 8 bucks plus freight. It is just the crome plated wheel . It has place for the stub but I did not need it.

It's unlikely you will find any, in the last year, 1 turned up on eBay, but was broken. I can take some pics and measurements of mine, but I won't be able to do that till the weekend.

Thanks, would like to know the actual diameter before moving forward with a replacement. It seems from photos that the wheels on front look a larger OD than the two mounted in the sides of the table. I need two hand wheels actually. The South Bend 13" wheels look similar to the original VN and there one or two off those on eBay. Also, David (post above) has one from Grizzly, which is 8" OD. I suspect these are larger, so a measurement would be great.

Both wheels are 8" diameter. She looks great. What serial # is it?

John, SN I think is 8947. I might be off on the last two digits- didn't write it down when i looked.

Cheers

8947 would make it maybe a year younger than mine. It looks very close.
