Help To Straighten A Worm.

I had a crack at straightening that despicable worm to no avail so have decided upon another route.
I found another worm that fits the housing but needs new end fixings so making a set out of some scrap brass I have.
At least the worm is straight and fits the gear nicely.
Pics to come once I have something to show.

It can be frustrating, to be sure. Hang onto it if you haven't already bounced it. It might be good practice later on.

The despicable worm is the bottom one, the top one is another I had that is straight but with smaller shaft diameters.
So I made new brass end caps for the housing. I had just enough brass from a sprue from some brass casting to make both ends.
It looks as if the worm teeth are of different size/pitch but they are the same.

Assembled and free movement with no play. I still have to make some plastic spacers for exact adjustment.
The two end bushes will clamp a ring guard around the worm gear so fingers dont get dirty or caught.
In place it works perfectly so the clutch is now finished.

Nice work! Don't you feel a special satisfaction when you make something out of some pieces from the "Junque" box?

As a hobbiest thats whats its all about isnt it:laughing:

You still need some vee blocks. :)
You're just supposed to have some.

Well done, congratulations. Yes, as a hobbyist we fix things, we don't 'just buy new.' We don't have a budget which includes repair parts.
