So I upgraded to a Phase II BXA size QCTP recently. When I unwrapped the parting tool holder (250-207 I think), I was surprised at how small the holder aperture is. I have about 10 parting tools including a ISCAR carbide holder and only one of them is small enough to fit in the holder. I have some ground HSS stock for parting also, but most of those are too small for the holder. Its got a fairly narrow range of sizes it will clamp.

What do other people use to hold a ISCAR or normal sized parting blade? Custom make their own holders?

Thanks

I have the same holder and I use a 3/32 x 11/16" HSS parting blade with a "T" shaped cross section. The blade is ground with an end relief bevel only. That is what the holder is designed for. It works great, no problems. The narrow blade uses less horsepower, too, than wider blades.

I had the same problem, only have 3 parting tools that are too wide for the holder. I made another piece from 1018 , 1-1/4"deep,3" long. I rabbeted the 1018 so it would fit inside the holder and held with the setscrews provided. The parting tool fit inside a groove and a cover with setscrews finished it off.The cover was 3/16" x 1-1/4" x 3".I drilled and tapped the 1018 for the cover and did the same for 1/4 - 20 setscrews.
The parting tool winds up flush with the Aloris type holder.
Worked out well, made two more later on when I had time.
