Anyone have a use for this? I tried to match it up to the lathes at the auction where I scored it but came up empty.
Trade or ??? ...
I'm getting ready to cut it up for material to make some tooling for the mill and my 14x40 lathe.
Note: shipping might be a bit costly...

Hate to see a good piece of tooling get cut up for other projects. Especially a follower rest.

Can you provide some more pictures? I may be interested in it. I have a 15" lathe I may be able to adapt it to. How much does it weigh? What are you looking for in trade? What kind of price are you looking at getting for it if you were to sell it?

Ken

From the pic, it looks like it may go in one of the large priority mail boxes, as long as it doesn't weigh over 70 pounds, it should ship OK
Do you still have it available? if so, how much and do you take PayPal?
I've got a 14" SB Turn Nado, and it looks like it would work without much modification. Thanks

Sorry, never mind, I've got a 17" lathe, not a 14"---hope I didn't put yo out any!

If 4gsr ends up not needing using it I think I can adapt it, I'd need to make an adapter as the bolt spacing is 6inches on my carriage.
There has been several times I've wished I'd had one!
Please don't cut her up.

Daryl,
My plans changed. This one is a tad too big for my 15" lathe. If for some reason Middle of the Road doesn't have this one available, I have one I bought that turned out to be way too big for my lathe. Its more for a 16"-19" lathe. If interested, let me know and I'll send pictures with dimensions for you to look at.

I'm actually concerned that this one might be to small for my Clausing Colchester 8000.
Center height is 7.68 and cross slide mounting holes for the steady were at around 6inches. However, I figured an adapter plate might be fabbed to make it work.

Yours might certainly work for my 18" over saddle, 20" over bed BoyeEmmes. Center-Center on her is around 54inches. I've turned several long skinny drive shafts for some local farmers with her. Lots of flex in a long stress proof 1" shaft! I think the last several were 7feet long. She hung out the spindle at a low rpm. A shop made collet system which fit the outboard end of the spindle or a support of some kind will prevent whip and allow a little more rpm. Regardless a Follow would have been very helpful! I usually end up making shims for the steady in order to get small enough, and just shut her down and move the Steady several times.

I've got 2 unknown vintage approx 12" which I'll eventually be posting as free (+shipping) to a good home for a HMer.
Do you have any approx measurements for your steady?

Hey gang, sorry I didn't keep up on this on. I thought that I had set the 'Watch Thread' feature, however I must not have.
It's still holding down the floor in the shop keeping it from rising up.
I'll try getting some more picts of it posted and check to see if it'll fit in a FR box.
I can't seem to toss or scrap out anything.

yeah, I didn't have the guts to cut her up, I'd never make it in a scrap yard that's for sure. I'd be bringing home even more clutter.

middle road,
I'll take a close look at my Colechester today and if I can make this follow fit.

4gsr,
Any idea what the mounting bolt pattern for on your available follow might be?
