A Dividing Head Anyone Can Build

Can you go into more detail on the two pieces you put together with locktite? I'm having trouble visualizing this.

I'll try , I can't remember exactly why I made it two pieces. I machined the worm shaft and eccentric as one piece and the larger hub that holds the index plates and will hold the sector arms as another piece. I then used loc-rite retaining compound to forever bond them into one piece. I can't remember why unless it was because of the materials on hand. I believe it might be possible to make it one piece. I will look at the head tomorrow and see if it jogs my memory.

Good evening Mark, I've just discovered and then read this thread. You're doing a wonderful & inspiring job. I love your ideas. I should take a go at transposing it.

Hi Mark, what a wonderful project you created. Have you got drawing plans for all the parts? I have seen the body plans at the beginning, but not any other. Can you please help by uploading them (if you have them) for us? It would be appreciated from every hobby machinist.
Thank you and please keep surprising us with your creations.

Mark, I hate you. I had just decided NOT to cannibalize my 4x6 bandsaw (which has a beautiful steel worm and brass gear) now thanks to you,
I'll have to reconsider. Arggg! LOL

Why don't you try to order the parts from H F they do sell them . Unless you can't wait.

Hey Mark did your friend tell you where he scavenged the 30:1 worm and gear from?

One question, how did you mark the graduations? I understand indexing, but making all the perfect lenght straight lines, and then also the numbers? Were the numbers just stamps?

Awesome thread, and I completely agree about complex mechanical machines. It's nothing but many small simple operations all happening in a sync to make the whatever work. It's how I do complex troubleshooting to mega mining machinery.

I make my graduations on the lathe using a degree wheel. The numbers are nade with stamps, but i made a fixture to hold the stamp for alignment.

Somewhere on here , I posted an article on graduations and stamping. Search my posts and you probably can find it.

I'm sorry , I missed some of the posts here. It was probably while I was hospitalized. I always try to answer any questions. I did not make plans for the project. I usually build something and then draw the plans. Sometimes I go right into another project and never get to the plans.
