I use dryer sheets in my cars and RV to keep rodents and insects out. Haven't seen any sign that they have tried to make a nest in either.

Very nicely done "intentional" result! As for the unintentional, I well know what you mean. So far I've been lucky, and the meeces have only nested in drawers. Nevertheless, I HATE finding urine-stained insulation all over a drawer full of newly rusted stuff - hate them meeces to pieces! I'll be trying mothballs in all the drawers this winter. I hear they work pretty well as a deterrent. Maybe you can find a way to place/hang a couple into your headstock. The naphthalene type should be pretty benign toward metal. I suppose the paradichlorobenzene is inert enough not to be a problem, but any mention of chlorine makes me paranoid. Good luck!

PS - if you have some camphor around (rust preventer for tool boxes), I'd bet it would work also.

We have used Bounce dryer sheets in our camper during winter storage for years. Never had a mouse. Lucky maybe, good cleaning and no food etc. left inside not a crum even might be why. sure smells good in the spring. my son had the opposest experience though, camper full of chewed up dryer sheets. I think I remember that mothballs are flammable so you may want to check on that,

Go to the drugstore and get a little bottle of oil of mint. It is sold in the pharmacy . Put some on a cotton ball and put it in the drawer or tool box. The mice will not go there. I use it in the house.

I would try those but I'm allergic to fabric softeners, so they probably would irritate mice as well.

Drier sheets. I remember a car aficionado relating he'd found a ball of drier sheets shredded into a nest, no deterrent at all. I, myself, depend on Decon, it deters the bejesus out of the little rascals. I maintain stations, at both ends of the lower level, (living area) almost never see any but dead ones.

I used to use drier sheets and mothballs in my camper trailer. They worked for me until I came up with a permanent solution. I sold the trailer.

I got tired of trying various ways to stick mag bases to my South Bend lathe while measuring. The curves of the cast surfaces sometimes make it difficult. So I decided to make one that I could stand on the bench and reach with. The cross piece is held by a u-bolt through an angle bracket. I re-drilled the holes at the proper angles and bent the angle in a little. I'll probably replace the mag base with a big chunk of iron or steel.

Wanted to share this with you guys, it's a Tesa Micromaster, 50 millionths resolution/accuracy, I love it, kinda spendy but worth it. The gage blocks being measured are original CE Johannsen Ford blocks, 1.1250, this micrometer measures to 1.2000 it also compares measurements, and has a preset feature which are both very handy features for production run parts.

Is Decon a poison or a repellent? I'm looking for something to make them want to go elsewhere. I've used several kinds of mouse bait/poison, and it's indeed killed quite a few. But I've also found nests (and the inevitable waste products) right next to the bait blocks!

One big reason I have a mouse problem is that I live out in the woods. There's no food in the garage, so I guess they just come in to find shelter from the rain, and maybe a slightly warmer place than the great outdoors. I've been pretty successful keeping them out of the house, but the garage doors aren't anywhere near as tight as house doors.

PS - Reading about the different results with dryer sheets, I wonder if it's a specific magical ingredient that only some brands have. And of course, none of the manufacturers will tell you what's in them, what with trade secrets, etc. So it's indeed a crap shoot!

Decon is a poison. I haven't had a problem since the feral cats moved into the area.
