Collet Racks

Benny, You better go with the rack, you have enough boxes full of goodies stashed somewhere you can't find them.

That left me with a spare set of mounting brackets. I made a top plate out of 18 gage and, using a 3/4" hole saw drilled over 100 holes.

There's a bunch of holes there with nothing in them.. You need to tool up!!

Shame on you, You can never have enough!!

Cheers Phil

Nice ideas guys. I need to do something about storing my 5C collets. Right now I store them in the boxes they came in and those boxes are piled into one of those plastic bins normally used to store fastening hardware. It's time to upgrade. :D

Ed,

Are there those metal racks with predrilled holes that they have for the R8 that can be used for 5C? I have some 5Cs I need organized also. Or do I need to get some 1x6's drill my own holes with a round keyhole saw and make my own?

I also have some 5V (Van Norman 5c) and BS9 collets that I need to put in a rack too.

While we're on the subject, this is how I store my R8 collets, I took over a small drawer in my rollaway and made an egg-crate partition out of thin plywood. The labels were made in Excel. The drawer is lined with sheet cork, which I got at a craft shop.

Saw this at work the other night, really nice collet storage

I have seen these sold at Enco for R8 collets, but not for the 5c collets I have for my lathe and mill.
Was going to use the square metal ones affixed to the wall, but the rotating ones are neat. Anyone make some collet holders from steel or wood?

I bought two of the cheap smaller ENCO racks. They were less expensive than the large one.
I cut one so that I gt a pair of two row additions. on the left side I have 5C hex collets, In the middle 5C round to 31/32 the first row on the right goe 1" to 1-1/8 by 1/32 the last are suare collets by 1/8"
(first attachment)

That left me with a spare set of mounting brackets. I made a top plate out of 18 gage and, using a 3/4" hole saw drilled over 100 holes. I use that one for Y-type collets and 3C collets

SWEET

Nice work Jim
I like it

Those are some really great ideas! I put a rack on the lathe I bought recently, but have been pondering what to do for my R8 collets for the mill. I've been keeping them in a drawer with some end mills, but that kinda wastes a lot of drawer room. I like that under cabinet setup, but looks expensive, and not easily fabricated, but I may do something with the drawer. I'll take some pics if/when I get there. Love this sight and all the fresh ideas!

Charley,

Your photo reminded me. I have a similar tool holder that I made for my first mill, a bench model mill/drill. The rotary holder mounted on top of an upright post that was fastened to the bench holding the mill. It was for R-8 colllets and had some other holes for small tooling such as chuck keys, hex keys, and screw drivers.

I'll have to drag it out if I can find the box I put it in.
