The college where I taught purchased four Acer lathes. Two of each size, 16 inch and 13 inch (not sure of exact size) we generally liked them both. The electronic speed control was smooth and worked really well. Having the ability to set any specific RPM was useful. They were reliable as well.
The only negative we saw was that the 13 inch models required a gear change to cut 13 TPI threads. Changing gears in a school shop can be tricky proposition. And since single point threading of various TPI threads is one of the cornerstones of lathe operation, changing gears was problematic. The larger 16 inch lathes did not have this issue.

I have a 14X40 E-lathe and you have to change a gear for 13 TPI. Never have used it but maybe someday. The Acer is a great machine and the vector drive is very quite and speed is infinitely adjustable. Really have enjoyed mine. 5 years old now.

I have the same lathe as Sandia. It's a nice lathe. I have a few change gears, and yes a odd numbered TPI needs a change, as does metric. I've never had to do a 13 thread, but I have done metric threads on a couple barrels.

The headstock is narrow and makes chambering through the headstock very easy, that's my main use for this lathe.

Just purchased a used Acer Dynamic 1340G. Working on running power in the shop, and hooking up everything to a VFD. That's the primary reason I joined the site to hook up the VFD

I think you will really enjoy it Mr. Miz

Thanks Sandia/Bob I usually don't dive to deep into forums, but I've already found several things I like on this site so I might have to spend a little more quality time on this one. Attached is the lathe I bought. Until I can get the media figured out on this site.

Nice looking machine, almost identical to mine in appearance. If I can help you with anything feel free to PM me with any questions. I have had mine about 5 years. Had a Jet 1340B prior to the Acer. What really prompted the purchase of the lathe was, I purchased a Acer mill and liked it so well I decided to purchase the lathe.
