With a little experimenting, I find one can run both X and
Y simultaneously on a Monarch 14 C. My question is: Will the machine cut at a 45 degree angle?

Try it out and let us know.;)

Why not dykem the metal and scribe a forty five and find out? In theory you should be able to cut circles , hexses, arcs and any shape you can think of.

It probably won't cut on a 45. The feed rate for cross-feed is half that of the apron feed, since you're reducing the diameter, not the radius. So my guess is it will cut a 63 degree angle. Try it.

AND I want to see pictures of all of your attempts.

I've "x-y step" milled a few items and it's sort of fun. I used my DRO's for X-Y guidance.
