Soft copper wire on loading jaw . Or use an angle plate.

If buy-something isn't ruled out, there's 5C collet fixtures that don't need the vise, just bolt 'em down.
I've got one that was very inexpensive, and one day I'll get the rough parts smooth enough to function...
