Anyone ever make a lift for drill press table? need ideas

I have a drill press without a lifting mechanism, its a oldie but goodie Atlas floor drill press but its a pain to change height of table
Anyone out there have any killer ideas for a retrofit?
If you have one on your drill press a picture would be real nice
    Any input would be appreciated

Looking at the results of a Google [is that actually a verb] for "drill press table lift" suggests that trailer jacks are popular ...

if you want a manual version and linear actuators ...

if you are into push button convenience.

At least something to get you thinking.

Re: Anyone ever make a lift for drill press table? need ideas

Thanks for the feed back, right now I am looking at a double sleeve with buttress threads on the inside sleeve and a buttress nut on the outside sleeve with a sprocket chain drive if you can visualize so to operate from the standing position or by power
I am looking for something that I can operate from the operating position on the drill press.
I will try to sketch it up and see what you guys can do with it

Seems we had a thread or two where members had done a good job a couple of ways to add a table lift. I'll see if I can locate them.

My idea won't suffice for a floor model drill press, but a few years ago I used a discarded hydraulic door closer mechanism to assist lifting the table on a bench top size drill press.

its a bit belated but may help someone.

My drill press has a hollow column and I have a bit of round bar about the weight as the drill press table. Its just a counterweight that is connected via pulleys and a stout stranded wire rope.

Its poring rain at the moment so I can;t get out there, but will take pics if anyone wants them.

Well I have traded up to a Powermatic varispeed with the low speed option which is nice BUT it creates a whole new set of rules for a table lift so back to drawing board

    Hi,
If it rains much more I will go out and shop for an arc.
Instead here s a link with pics to a kit that was available in Oz .
    http://www.onlinetoolreviews.com/reviews/easyriser.htm

It looks quite simple to duplicate,if you have a lathe. If you don't, it was cheap enough to buy at $69.Au three or four years back.Hopefully it is still available.

The hard bit is getting the head off the drill ,its bloody heavy. The counterweight make lifting or lowering the table quick and easy- like 5 or 10 seconds work.
If you need more pics or more info ,just ask!

    Hope it helps.

i have the same problem, by table w/ my x/y vise is very heavy and may need 60 lbs of counterweight.
i like the steel pipe/ concrete idea!

Re: Anyone ever make a lift for drill press table? need ideas

The counter weight does'nt necessarily have to fit down the hollow column.
It can be sited outside, even inside its own pipe /tube if need be. That can be any size you want it to be.
