Very cool. Do you have any of the other parts and are restoring them or are you planning to build a rifle using this as the base?

    Hey Norm,

I've never seen an 1889 Favorite. There appear to be subtle difference between it and the 1915 model. The extractor for instance is totally different.

It's looking good so far. How are you going to finish it? I think originally the receiver was color case hardened and the rest blued.

the other one i did was just rust blues i have played with color a little and thought about it but not set on either way . i did cut the barrel shank last night on the 17 call and have the 22 call all dialed in ready to cut the shank on it . lots of barrel to cut down and get tapered. 22 cal barrel was 21 inches and 17 cal was 24

    Norm,

Who's barrel blank are you using and how do you plan to taper it? I assume it's octagon at the breech and round the rest of the way out?

Good work. Don't have a Favorite, but have a Crackshot, and a #6 Remington falling block, both of which I have drilled out and installed liners in. Both shoot very well.

    Norm,

It sounds like a real nice shooter. How about some pics of the finished product?

I like to see the Stevens projects..Would been nice to have some better pictures of the finished rifle...

like that extractor better than the type used in my 1915..If not careful I can load a round missing the lip on the extractor- effectively loading the round under the extractor.

    Re: 1889 stevens favorite

my 1894 stevens had that prob also the extractor hole and bolt were quite sloppy can cause the extractor to set a little lower or it has worn real bad on the end from firing pin wacking on it. i had to weld up the end near the case and reshape with a drimmel tool. the 1889 has side extractor i made a new one and bent it to the inside so it would reach the 22 case . lot easyer to cut the barrel on the 1894 with the center extractor. my orig chamber in the 1894 was so worn that it was probly the biggest reason the case go over the extractor. the 1894 was worn compleetly worn out and the 1889 was a hopeless peice of scrap.
