Picked up a number of things at auction today. One was a 3MT shell mill. 3 cutters on it, and they are all chowdered up. The inserts are HSS with cemented C-2 carbide cutting edges. Here is a picture of the inserts:

I have searched all afternoon, and have not found anything yet. Here is how they are marked:

W.C. TLS.
A-14078
c-2 2-73

I would like to purchase new inserts for it or have the carbide replaced on the existing ones. Any help is appreciated.

Those inserts have probably not been made in over 50 years.

How about a pic of the shell mill?

HI tfleming,
i don't know if the idea is feasible,
but you could heat up the insert and remove the carbide portion
then braze/silver solder a new piece of carbide in and then regrind to your liking.
or
make new inserts from mild steel and braze carbide on and grind to specs

Ulma Doctor, that is pretty much my plan if I can't find these. There is a saw company near me that does carbide work, and they can replace the carbide portion of these, and grind them back to spec. I will price it out, and if it becomes more expensive than to just buy a new shell mill of comparable size, then I will go that route. Would like to keep the old girl though.........

thanks! I'll give him a call.
