Hey all...
I've recently acquired an older Sheldon lathe. An XL 56 I believe. It came with a drawbar, but it lacks the tapered nosepiece that the 5c collets go into. I have the threaded piece that screws onto the spindle, just not the piece that closes the collet.
Any thoughts??

I know nothing about the XL-56. But if its spindle nose has an MT taper of 5MT or larger, then you just need to look for a generic collet closure adapter for that MT to 5C. If it is smaller than 5MT, I don't believe that it can take 5C collets other than with a collet chuck.

The XM series like most Sheldon lathes, have a odd ball size taper in the spindle. It measures 1.625" at the face of the spindle. It would be like a Morse 4-3/4 taper if it was to exists. Ken
