Before you go lunging after the available bench option, think through what kind of storage you want under the lathe. Personally, I find shelves behind doors almost useless. You have to squat down, stuff gets buried in the back, the lighting sucks, etc. I much prefer drawer storage as you can see in the stand that I built for my 1340GT. Many others buy a tool storage box and adapt it into the stand. There are plenty of examples here on H-M using this strategy. From a value standpoint, the Harbor Freight tool boxes are very well made considering their low cost. Most systems that do not have a flip-up top lid are either too tall to fit under the lathe without some modification (removing the casters) and/or elevating the lathe to a height that may be objectionable. The top-box alternatives are more practical, but you'll need to modify the box to remove the flip-up lid and come up with another drawer-slide mechanism to use the space such as the following example:

Both of the options you mention would be serviceable as a platform for the 1340GT. That said, I prefer the blue one you show in the photo - it's more rigid and more easily moved around with a pallet jack. If you get the HD version, I would encourage you to think of adding some crossbars on the legs to act as stability gussets.

You didn't mention the height which might influence your decision based on where you want the lathe positioned given your height, and what you plan to put under the lathe. Thanks for the reply Dave, the overall height of the Blue frame is 32". I'll pick it up tomorrow and do some customizing to it over the winter. Dave I'll message you later in the week to set up a call with you in the near future if your available.

There is a significant performance difference between single phase and 3 phase on the 1236T/1340GT, and when adding a VFD brings it up to the next level. Since there is no manual brake on those lathes, the electronic braking adds a significant safety factor as well as more predictable braking. On turning/drilling/boring the adjustable speed helps one dial in the sweet spot minimizing chatter.

Update have the bench placed in shop today. I have some temporary wheels on to move around will get the all in 1 leveling casters next few weeks. I plan on having lathe delivered with gate delivery at the end of March. Next steps moving a few items around in my shop to accommodate lathe. I plan on moving BP over about 2' for little more room.

Just came in today. I have some reading to do now!! We'll see how many question come out of this. My plan is the Dorian BXA after I get the machine set up, then need to figure out where to get tool holders and tooling possibly Haas. Looking for suggestions. Darn this Aloris Indexable
anyone have one? Pricy but convenient. This could get interesting David B do you have one?

Machine is local now I received a call for delivery today. Early next week it will arrive!!

Casters installed these will work out nice!! All concrete is good so easy to move machine around from outside into shop. I plan on setting lathe on it outside then rolling it in. Here are the casters I used.

I'd be happier if the casters were outboard in the other direction, in that plane they do nothing for stability. You might get some square tubing and put it across the two feet on each end and move the casters out.

I understand the thought process of not having them stick out the other direction as a trip hazard, but this configuration is an invitation for the lathe to meet the ground.
