What kind of toolbox (Gerstner, Kennedy, etc) do you have and how do you store calipers, micrometers, depth gages, rulers,in the toolbox?

How do you organize your toolbox so you can find things?

Both Craftsman boxes. Almost all Starrett, Brown and Sharp, or other USA and European tools inside. These were listed something to the effect of-"Grandpa was a machinist. These were his tools he willed to me. I have no idea what they are." The neat thing about buying a whole box of tools from a retired machinist is that you find lots of little bits of shop-made tooling, fixtures made to do a particular job, even notebooks with sketches, etc. the craftsman kept for maybe decades. It's a shame the heir had no interest in the occupation that probably bought them many a birthday present over the years.

I think I paid $200 for this one stuffed full.

The six inch Starrett micrometers are over $200 alone.

Some years ago I was given a load of steel channel, cut to lengths and in three sizes. I think they were shelf braces. Anyhow I made a tool cabinet from them and some plywood. The top of course is a catchall (horizontal surface, you know the drill) but until a few days ago it also held a foot-high stack of Home Shop machinist which is now on shelves upstairs, so I feel I'm making progress.

Really like the wood boxes, Nice touch ;)
Hand crafted tool chests are allways a custom touch!

Thanks Paul, while this wasn't a cheap build, I needed it to fit a narrow space which the usual brands were too wide and deep. came out to my liking and fits like a glove. just need to find the time to organize the tools in there and find good placements. does that ever end?

even though I have a lot of tool boxs and machinist boxs, I like this idea better for a lot of things, this is the rolling work bench in the big shop, it is 6 foot long and holds a lot of tools, and it has a light above and a four 110 volt out lets on it, when i'm working on the tractor in the winter I move both of them in at one time and can move the bench where I need it,
