Stand for Granite Surface plate

This was a nice little project. I had saved a bunch of galvanized steel from an old satellite dish
and it really came in handy. Not wanting to weld on the galvanized, I bolted the stand together.
I added a shelf for storage and of course it immediately got filled up with stuff. Also I made a wooden
cover for the surface plate to keep it protected when not in use. This top cover will serve double service
as a light duty work space or to collect junk which seems inevitable. Also, I made an aluminum bracket for
holding an indicator for precise measuring. Now I am pretty much ready to scrape in some parts and
hopefully make some improvements on some machine tools. View media item 95796

I need to find an out of the way spot to park this stand as it doesn't move around easily. It needs to be
in a climate controlled atmosphere for real accuracy. According to the paperwork is is flat to .00015
from end to end. It likely is way more accurate than anything I will ever need.
