Iceland starts erupting

A couple of pictures from two days ago. The first one is confirmed by Isak Finnbogason, not sure about the second one. He is a drone pilot. Pretty stunning view, in my opinion. But it is hard to tell scale, as there's nothing familiar to compare against.

Here's the second one, presumably from Isak. He is a talented videographer.

The river emanating from the base of the cone, flows to near Svartsengi as seen in Gylfi's stunningly artistic videos, linked on post #59. These two pictures in this post came from the Vikurfretir newspaper website. Isak can frame a picture well!

As far as anyone can tell, Iceland may have started a new era of activity. Prior to 2021, the Reykjanes peninsula had been quiet volcano wise for 800 years. But it seems, at least for the last 4000 years there has been 4-5 cycles of activity for 100-300 years, followed by quiet for 500-800 years. So this eruptive activity might not end right away.

The good citizens of Iceland will somehow have to cope with this. They've been remarkably resilient so far. Based on what I've seen, they have done some amazing things in very short times to restore power, hot water, other services and roads. The work on the berms has been outstanding and invaluable in staving off the relentless flow of molten lava. Let's hope their valiant efforts continue to be rewarded.
