This pin connects the gear to the hub. It goes in a hole that's drilled in it..
Picture of speed change shaft assembly with new shaft.
Use a punch to remove the pin. This will allow you to remove the shaft...but don't unless you have to!
Plastic bearing block with hub still installed...gear removed.

The gear should come off without too much trouble. Although you may need to pry a little bit.
