Use a punch to remove the pin. This will allow you to remove the shaft...but don't unless you have to!

This particular place is where I made the mistake of taking this apart unnecessarily. Nothing was wrong with it. I ended up having to cut the end of the shaft off and the end of the gear off. Then my shaft was the original type...different dimensions than the current "AVAILABLE" model. Made one...
