Hi: I just purchased an APT 3" 90 degree face mill with an integral R8 shank. I'm working with stainless and could use some help choosing the right TPG inserts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm a beginner and new to this type of tooling. Thanks

C2 grade carbide, coated would be better. Kennametal grade KC730 is also an excellent grade to use, too.

+1 on the coated suggestion. Mine are TiN coated and they work find. It tends to weld to naked carbide... Hit it with WD-40 or cutting oil and it will improve the finish considerably.

thanks guys. The site I'm looking at shows 5 inserts from .008 to 1/16 radius in 64ths (but they only have three grades up to C5 coated in import and US made). I assume that's the radius of the points, and that the pointier ones cut faster and the rounder ones finish smoother? Is there a cross reference to the kennametal ones? I hate assuming. Thanks again for the advice.
