I dont know if this counts but this is another hobby I have it is a 450 Huey Gunship. This is not a recent photo because now I have updated the main shaft and mast to a more original Huey look. Most of these use a shaft or belt to drive the rear prop but on this one I machined a mount for a brushless motor and a variable pitch prop. It is much more dependable than the belt or shaft. It also has strobe lights and hand made rocket lauchers and mini guns. Ray

You mean it looks that cool AND actually has moving parts!! What is it made of primarily?

It is a fiberglass body with a carbon fiber tail boom the blades are carbon fiber as well the main support parts are aluminum. Ray

Wow, I haven't done RC in a while... Beautiful! I wouldn't fly it over Tarmac though!! :) - crashes on grass are so much easier to fix! Ha hah

Good friends got me into RC planes years ago, and told me straight out- "you have to enjoy fixing them as much as flying them, or don't do it"

I think I enjoyed fixing them more!

I did the SPADs thing for a couple of years (before machining). Building fixed wing planes out of sign boards and kitchen cutting boards... kept the air frames super cheap. Looking back, I wish I would have done cars or copters... then I could have 'played' in my own back yard. Might have stuck with it longer, finding time to haul everything to the airfield was less than ideal!

Very cool by the way! (make the guns work, there is no such thing as going too far!!!)
 
An aquintance of mine has a Huey that runs on a 26cc gas Zenoah, it must be 5 feet long he has 2 pilots and gunners at the doors on 50cal's . It's so cool !

My last fixed wing I did over 20yrs ago and it was a Folker D7 with a 6 foot wingspan and a OS four stroke engine, and get this I had a Futaba radio that was on a AM channel unbelievable band width and distance. I love the world war one aircraft as much as I love the Huey's.. Ray
 
Way cool. I did the F3A Pattern event in AMA for a while, but got dumb thumbs and lost my eye. spatial awareness is so important when flying copters, I never could master it. I was a 40 dollar a flight type of pilot. Needed lots of rotor blades to keep me in the air...That is a jamb up Huey model. Did you start with a kit or assemble all the parts individually. I had a Hirobo shuttle on the same AM radio and they did have great range, but interference was usually an issue at out field from the high tension lines nearby. Thanks for the great pics!!!

I found the bigger they where the easyier they where to fly but the more expensive they where to fix. I started with a rough fiberglass body and a bunch of extra parts my friends had laying around from deceised 450 heli's I made a lot of the parts and purchased a few I scratched built the rocket launches and mini guns. It came together pretty nice I also have purchased a set of scale huey blades and for those of you familar with the special shape of the huey blade it gives off the familiar thumping sound as it beats the air into submission. I chose the electric motors because they almost rival the gas and they sound like a turbine winding up without all the smoke, oil and fuel problems.
There are a lot of electronics in this bird for flight stabilization but it seems to have the power to carry it this bird will also fly inverted.. Ray
