I want to learn how to cut threads, My power feed is belt drive and to cut threads the belt and pulleys come off and are replaced with gears, the drive and driven gears mount to the same shafts that the pulleys came off of and the idler goes on the banjo, I dug through all the stuff that came with the lathe and I can't find an idler mount to go on the banjo. Are most of these just an oiled bushing or do they have a bearing in them?

I need to make this as parts are not available for this lathe. It's a Jet 1440 URPE which is a Spanish lathe Jet sold for a very short time in the mid 80's.

Thanks
Brian

Threading probably won't be high speed, make what you need from steel, lube it well with white lithium grease, and have fun.

Did you ever find the parts or descriptions for what your missing. I recently purchased a Jet/Urpe 1440 lathe. It did not come with any of the threading change gears or mounting for the idler gear. If you have some of the gears could you tell me the diametric pitch of them, also any idea of what they are made of. I need to start making some gears but other than tooth count I'm really not sure where to start. I recieved the "manual" from Jet but it's pretty much useless other than lubrication points.
Does anyone know where to find some gears or parts for these Urpe lathes.

Welcome to the forum

Yes I did, I got some pictures and dimensions for the idler bits and I have a full set of gears, when I get a chance, probably this weekend, I'll measure them and figure the DP.

Here are the links to the photos from a user on here, goes by dominus.

I measured 3 gears this morning and according to the first link Mike provided the modulus is 1.5
40 tooth OD 63mm
66 tooth OD 102mm
80 tooth OD 123mm

15mm thick and either steel or cast iron I can't tell by looking at them.

thank you both, this info is extremely helpful. Now to start cutting some gears.
