Advice on an Internal Acme Thread

I suspect you're correct Randy. Since the screw is a 1/2-10 LH and original is/was 5/8-10 LH.
I also can see no visible wear in the cross slide screw when compared to the vertical screw.
 
Some times you can just turn the lead screw upside down and re machine the ends to work. That is done usually on lathes,but will work on other applications too.
 
Pulled this out of my spindle housing. Does it look like it doesn't belong?

Hey Wreck Wreck, you were right.
I did my best to identify it from the pictures, I'm not an expert in threads but have seen and made a great deal of different threads in the last 30 years.
Advances in manufacturing technologies over the last 5 decades have made precision acme screws very accurate, commercially available components may work just fine in your application and are far easier to source.

Making a square thread is a hair pulling experience short of a grinder for this purpose.

That looks like a c-clip, for retaining or limiting the movement of another part, such as a bearing.
Sorry I forgot to post the other half of the equation. There are two. They are in the housing for a spindle that carries two bearings. One was broke and I broke the other trying to get it out. Its a different style of Truarc retaining ring. It's a medium duty ring as the other was a light duty ring.
