As most know I'm going through a very tuff battle between a life of pain or the last breath. It's really hard to fight the pain and the drugs, I'm a no drugs guy forced to take the things I hate. It's been just a week and a day since the ganglion impur blocks in L1- L4 vertebra . It's starting to help I think the spasms are less and the stabbing cutting tearing feeling is better. Of course I'm still on 8 mg of morphine and fentanyl patches.
So I had to Ck in the Jefferson my chart ,,, shouldn't have ,,, I'm hit with the cost of the one day in operation to remove the interstim stimulator . The cost just for that day $$$50,000.00 plus a few hundred more. The last round of blocks is another $7,000.00 , if I had the anesthesia it would have been over $10.000.00 at first I was sorry I didn't take it but for $3,k ill take those stabs and burns with the local.
My beef with it all is how can it be that much money. Where do the people like me get that kind of money. I'm getting billed and owe over a $1,k for my part of Medicare . And I'm not eligible for the extra insurance for the gap . I couldn't afford it anyway , my income $1,111.00 per month barely pays the bills taxes and insurances cost me $9k per year leaving $4k for essentials electric , water, HEAT, propane, food can't live without items. We don't even go out to eat on our anniversary . We use to both go on that day but not for years now. So she cooks our lobster tails and baked potato dinner. That's our only splurge in a year.
It's I just don't see how they can justify billing amounts that high for one night not even a full 24 hours . I was pushed out on the street at 9:30 pm in Philadelphia waiting to be picked up by my daughter . I mean they refused to take me in my wheelchair in there van to my house . They offered to use there wheelchair and charge me twice for the trip one for me and one for my wheelchair. Owe it was $560. To take me 15miles .
They couldn't help but they sure expect Hugh amounts of payment .
No wonder vets live in boxes on the street our system is always about money not helping others . Isn't it there creed to do no harm , how much harm do bills like this cause??? I'm surprised I don't have ulcers or heart trouble . But it's coming I'd bet stress will get me. Thanks for a place to vent , sorry it's all about me , but it affects many of my family too. God I never deserved this life , I kept straight never did stupid stunts just worked and lived right. If this isn't right you can delete it , I think it helped just typing it out .

I recently had surgery to repair to a dislocated and arthritic Sterno-Clavicular Joint, it was through private health care as for this issue the NHS don't mind if you can't work or drive as long as your life isn't threatened.
The costs were met by my insurance but I did see some of the documentation and the surgeon's fee was significantly less than GBP1000, the anaesthetic and other services and hospital fees weren't included in that but I was still a bit surprised by how reasonable it was!
It seems to me there is an element of charging whatever can be gotten away with where all healthcare is covered by insurance, as we saw in the recent crash a free market isn't self regulating and those filling their pockets are rarely the ones who lose out when TSHTF

I don't say much about it but I'm a bit into that same boat. I'm still working but I don't know if I can keep it up. The part that frosts me - In some ways I'd be better off not working and going on the states system. I keep paying more and more but get less and less! My insurance at work used to have a 200 deductible. The 2 years ago it went to 500. Now it's 5 grand! And many of my meds they just don't cover anymore. My sisters family ( on the state program ) just got a bunch better and they don't pay cr_p 'cause they are all part time employees on a state program.
Sometimes I think the working man needs to stay home for a few weeks and bring "the system" to it's knees 'cause they've forgotten who supports all this.

Those who pay for health care are also paying for those poor " undocumented aliens" and the absurd salaries of people who really know little or nothing of health care except how to squeeze more money from it as well as the dividends of investors, many of whom reside in congress.
Nuff said.

Among the sticky posts, you will see a name, Bob Beckett. He was a moderator here, and a great guy.
He was in a similar situation, and also in a wheel chair.
Sadly, he eventually just let go. I'm not suggesting that is what you should do, just letting you know you are not alone.
He is sorely missed.

Thanks Nelson it's so hard to keep fighting . I'm just not able to die yet, my family is living on my income and not making extra is hurting . I use to fix and sell used equipment , anything I could get cheap or free I'd work on it and at times make a couple dollars or up to $1,800. I bought smart by finding unique tools or items. But something's take years to sell.
So now I'm not repairing anything it's hard to make the bills. Now our granbaby is living with us , more expense we don't need. Thanks for caring I mean it . I do care about others over myself. Always praying for the ones here even over my own grief. God bless you for allowing just that in this country now .
