4x6 bandsaw chip brush :) and bearings

Well I posted on here a bit ago looking for suggestions. I really like the spinning brush but i searched every store in town for a mandreless 1 inch wheel and couldnt find one and every place i could find to order only sold by the box for like 80 bucks .I think I found one on grainger but didn't wanna wait. so I made this up with some scrap in the meantime it uses cheap lil brushes they carry at HF and several other places it works pretty good I also changed my bearings # 629 zz couldn't get those in town either so I got 10 on amazon for 10.50 getting the saw all tuned back up after my nephew admitted him and his buddy knocked it over when I was gone freaking kids

I think he means a wheel without a shaft, just a hole in the center.
I wonder if a nylon bristle brush would be better? Like toothbrushes? Would the steel bristle brush dull the blade? No idea

Great idea! As an owner of a 4x6 myself, this one goes on my project list.

They have those in brass bristles too. With a block like that the 1/4" shaft brushes would work , one on each side. If you add a brass or bronze bushing and oil them up they will ride and sweep the blade while turning against the blade .

I think that's the way some of the commercial ones work. There are two brushes, one one either side of the blade, and set at an angle. As the blade moves past it turns the wheels (brushes) such that the bristles drag debris out and away from the gullets. How one might get that in there I don't know, the space is pretty tight.
There used to be a gizmo sold for bicycle enthusiasts to clean the chain while riding. Same type of idea, except the bicycle one was enclosed in a clear plastic case and was somehow suspended over the chain (clamped on the the chainstay, maybe?). No idea if or how they worked -- perhaps they still make them.

It's just a small wheel you can mount on anything I found all that I could find that come premounted on a mandrel are way to stiff for this purpose

I also added a super high tech light with a good magnet. it actually works really well I get these free all the time the magnets not great so sometimes I just stick a good magnet on there. I just ran out of neodymium mags so I added the ol rubber band these new style lights are way brighter than the old ones

You have easy /practical solutions that make your shop time more comfortable, I like the "super high tech light " idea I bet many of us who walk around the shop with a magnifying glass, would copy that LED light.
The wire brush is also a good solution, my older model Kalamazoo saw has two folded wire brushes that wrap around the blade, I checked the price on ebay last year and it was around $40 a set , I may have to get a cheap file cleaner and fold it and use something like your contraption to attach it to the saw, thanks for the inspiration.
