Quick question. My mill/drill spindle rumbles quite a lot at certain speeds but not always. Is it definitely the spindle bearings or could it be something else also. Just want some info before I start stripping. I had a smaller type mill/drill before with the same problem and replaced the bearings with no improvement as I recall. That's why I am asking.

Possible. So that means I must make up a new spline I guess. If that is the case, it is going to have to wait a bit sadly. I have so much projects to get to plus work. Thanks Tweinke

Guessing you've checked bearning adjustment and lubed same

No not yet. I haven't stripped or anything I am just getting my mindset ready for it.

What kind of mill do you have? If Asian, most of them will have a spindle and a drive sleeve and you will get rumbling if the bearings for either one are bad.

I have a A&S milling drilling machine. Think it is British. I will post a pic tomorrow. Maybe on of our British members can tell if this is true

If you say "belts",are you asking if it is driven by belts or are you asking if that is producing the rumble? If it is the latter, well no that is not where it comes from. I can clearly hear it from the spindle and like I've mentioned it doesn't rumble all the time.

Here is the pics of the machine Mikey.
