December projects

Thanks Benmy , Craftsman / Stickley has been my favorite for more than 40 years, finally at 68 yrs. I have some time to build a few pieces . Of course at my age extra furniture is not a very desirable thing, and the wife doesn't let go of things so easily.

Yes, I have an eye for it, but have nearly no pieces of it. I am only (nearly) 74, and have a lot of furniture from my grandmother's (large) house, nearly all from the Victorian era, but some from the 1920s as well. I guess the family skipped the craftsman era ---
Where in Alabama is Florence? Some of my family lived in DeKalb Co. in the dim past. We visited there in the mid 1980s.

Hey Benmy, I am in the NW corner of AL . Decalb is in almost in the NE corner. It's noted for the country group Alabama. Our area is noted for hit recordings of the past 50 or so years.( think Muscle Shoals Sound). Fame studio started in our city and moved across the river to the city of !uscle Shoals in the 60's.On the Craftsman furniture, I have collected several older pieces but not an an original Stickley or Limbert though.
I noticed you have blacksmith ing tools. Sounds a bit more elaborate than I am used to. I have a forge equipped with tools that date back more than 100 yrs in my dads family.

I was raised (reared) in the '40s with Stickley type furnature, learned to hate red oak. While I see the beauty in some of the pieces, the dining room chiars I lived with keep me away from most of it. My loss, I guess.

I never have seen rain as heavy as I saw at Fort Payne Al. in 1985 when we were there! My 3rd great grandparents on my father's side are buried in the county, but we were unable to exactly locate them.
My blacksmithing equipment consists of the 100 lb hammer, a coal burning forge, a gaggle of tongs, etc. and some power hammer tools that I have made.
