My welding positioner project turned out really well so I thought I would share. Hopefully the plans are complete. The plans are based on exactly what parts I made and/or used. Some parts like the power supply and motor controller may not be available exactly like I used so you will have to modify the mounts if different. I recommend the motor I used. At 3 RPM max it is just about perfect for speed and torque.

The plans assume you have a welder since well, it is a welding positioner after all. Also included is a bill of materials with links to parts for reference and wiring diagrams.

Plans are for personal use only please. Let me know if you find any errors, commissions or see something that needs clarification. Making drawings is not my day job.

I am in the "process" of making a postioner. I just have so many projects going at once...(i dont recommend it.) I most everything for mine now, but one thing you planned for and i did not...grounding. It never even crossed my mind to be honest. So, say i attach my TIG ground to the machine then strike an arc to my piece. What damage will that cause? To simplify what i have, a 50:1 gear box that the input side is connected to a 18v drill motor (it has forward, reverse and variable speed. It is connected to a 12v battery, but will swap that to 110v. What will get destroyed here? How do i stop that?
Thanks, a great plans, I'm glad i stopped to take a peek!

The lug welded to the case makes a solid ground connection. The grounding between the table shaft and the case helps protect the roller bearing. I have had no issues with the electronics.

I think he was referring to hot rolled mild steel, and yes that will also work.
The mill scale may have to be dealt with for some parts.............

i know i am late to the party this would be the idea that got certiflat to make theirs from
