Would like to have a OEM thread dial for my restoration of 9” C model SB lathe. Have found many reproductions (3D printed) but would like to keep the machine as mfg’d. Any help would be appreciated, thank you !

Frankly. Which dial are you talking about. The crossfeed dial ? Compound dial ? Or the threading dial. ?

let me know...

The threading dial that connects to lead screw

That I don’t have. I know I have an old cross-slide dial from my 9c because I made bigger dials for that lathe. But the thread dial which runs against the lead screw I do not have . I made one for my lathe. But it wouldn’t look good on a restored lathe.
Anyway, fwiw... I went looking for the small dials and can’t find them. I know I have them somewhere but can’t locate them right now.

lol, I can't find mine either, after I made large dials I stored them away but where ????

I have seen those thread dials go for over $300 - absolutely ridiculous. I have 2 original thread dials on my 9A's but will not sell (for now)
There is one on ebay now for $229 but some have sold ~ $80 - set up an ebay alert and wait

If you wait long enough and are ready to pounce when it comes up eBay will eventually come through. I was looking for an 8" 4 jaw chuck and just after I got refunded for the cheap Chinese one I bought which got damaged in shipment, a really nice Bison showed up for $200. Yes, take my money please :grin:

If you really have to have it now then pay what the eBay folks want. Otherwise wait and a complete lathe with the dial will present itself in due time for less than what they go for on the bay....

I made this one by copying the dimensions of my 3-D crappie printed one I got off of EBay. The gear of the 3-D dial just began to unravel.
Anyway, it wasn’t hard to make one.
Here’s a few more pictures. FWIW, Grizzly sells the gear to match up with OE dials.
And yeah, no way am I paying 200.00 for a thread dial. Insane prices.

Thanks guy’s for the input, I’ll wait and see what is offered on eBay and other sites. The prices are kind of high for an original dial but that’s what I would hold out for to keep the lathe genuine SB. I want to pass down OEM to my progeny just as my dad did for me ! Thanks again for all your nice comments and observations !

i might get beat up for this; but what is so special about keeping the lathe original. whatever you buy wasn't there when the machine was built. i might as that you will need to use a original rocker tool post.
