I just stopped by the site here for the first time in a while and found there is a tractor section now. I have been into gardening and tractors lately so I think this forum is great.

I dont have many pictures but have been posting videos on youtube for a troy-bilt tiller I am rebuilding. It started with replacing wheel shaft seals but since they still were leaking I decided to do a overhaul.

Started cleaning and getting ready for paint which is not covered in a video yet.

I have part 8 uploaded to youtube and in it I was undecided what to do with the shaft. I have a friend who is going to weld up the low spots and I am going to turn it back down on my lathe. Hope to have a video of some maching work soon along with more details of my mill spindle light from another post.

Alread have the wheel cleaned down to the metal and three coats of paint on one and one coat on the other.

Since I am doing it at work in my off time and they do not allow pictures here, there isn't any pictures or videos.

Correction. Video 6 is uploaded not 8. Both wheels are painted now. Started sanding the main frame and getting ready to paint. I think I am going to prime over the paint and the apply the top coats. There is about 90% of the frame still covered with paint and the rest bare metal.

Is it ok to prime over the painted section or should I just prime the bare metal? Painting is not something I claim to be good at.

The wheel shaft has been welded to fill in the groves that the seals cut. Now I can put it in the lathe and turn it down to .998" which is the measurement I got from a section of the shaft which does not show any wear.

The new decals for the hood came in and look really good. I just hope I can apply them straight and with out bubbles.

Anybody know what color would best match the original Troy-bilt color?

Uploading 3 more videos showing me working on the wheel shaft. I had it welded but it did not cover all the wear grove and I found some cracks starting around the woodruff key area. I decided to make a new shaft so I started turning it down. Still learning about feeds and speeds. Also learned alot about how sharp a sharp bit has to be. Had some chatter while cutting and found my bits weren't as sharp as I thought they were.

I will post link to the videos soon as they finish uploading.

I'm watching this ont TD. I have one out back that hasn't been used in 15 years.

"Billy G"

Had one from 1980 or so. Best tiller made, period.
Had to replace the axle seals when some bailing twine got wrapped around the the shaft. A very rugged design. It got melted down when the barn burned about 7 yrs ago. It was likely an electrical fire as there was no new hay at the time. Rodents!! Total lost.

Bill was your running when you parked it. Guess you don't have a garden that needs it. We have an Econo horse I used ladt year but it was to light weight. Brother in law bought this one and I am fixing it up. Looking forward to putting it to work this spring. Gardening takes a lot of my time so I look forward to project which require me to use my shop equipment.

Mine is a 1976 so if you ever need any maunals for it let me know, I have them in PDF.

Sucks to here about the barn fire. Loosing the tiller was bad enough but I am sure there was even more that was lost also. My project started out replacing the wheel seals, as you probably know by now, and is ending up with a complete rebuild of the transmission, tine hood body work and a coat of new paint while I am at it. Can't believe I have been working on it for a month now, hope I can finish it before spring.

In one of my latest videos I added a plug for the site here. Hope yall dont mind a few extra members if they decide to join.
