Bill, I congratulate you on your work so far. This is an undertaking that not many home machinists would attempt, yet you are demonstrating techniques and processes for everyone to learn from. The results are going to be worth all your efforts. You will have a machine that is the envy of most of us.

That is one fine piece of work. I enjoy the little tricks along the way just as much though. I also thought it was an end mill . Are you using a index or just a roto table for the flutes. Them flutes make that whole piece pop out at you. Super nice

Round Nose end mill --- 12 holes .210 deep --- 30 degrees apart. Today is gonna be a little tougher. I want to use the dividing feature on my rotary table. One full turn of the crank moves the table 4 degrees. Mine is 90:1. Every 1/4 turn equals 1 degree.

Number of turns is equal to 90/N where N id the number of divisions you want. 90/360 = .250 or 1/4 turn per degree. After checking it out I need the 20 hole row. 6 holes should be 1 degree. :thinking::thinking:

It's a go, the 20 plate works. I needed to modify an old boring bar to hold the .250 HSS cutter. The graduations will be .010 deep.

Really looking forward to this part Bill, as I am going to attempt a T&CG this year and only have a very general idea of how to do graduations and number stamping. Getting out the popcorn.... :))

Edit: I have a 6" rotab, but no indexing plates. Didn't think I needed them, but maybe they make the math easier?

A small family matter arose. I will get back ASAP. This is the set-up except for the X axis offset. Indicator is "0" all the way around. Be back soon.

Back and started. I am using individual stops for the different lines. I set the machine stop to 5/8. .001 lines are 1/4 inch long. .005 lines are 3/8 inch lone and .010 lines are 1/2 inch long. .000 is the 5/8 line. This way I have to only go around once. This will take a little time. I will paint that part of the OD black. When good and dry I will clean it leaving the paint in the grooves.

Bill, How deep are the scribe lines, roughly? Lacquer works good for the paint. It cleans up super easy with lacquer thinner, you won't have to super saturate the rag, risking pulling the paint out of the grooves. I usually use a a fine rag like a t-shirt so as to only get the surface.

Marcel;

.012 deep., gonna take a skim cut in the lathe after numbers are on. Looks good so far.
