Hello to all and new to this forum. Being new I'm probably going to say things using the wrong terminology and hope that i will do better in the future. With that said, here's my issue.

I've never purchased a lather before and wanted to start with something small and inexpensive, The last time i used a lathes was way back in 1982! So i found a deal on a model 1000 Unilathe 9". I don't need anything much bigger for the type of work i will be doing, so i loaded it up and its now in my shop.

The problem: I have now discovered there are gears missing from the Feedbox. If you look in the parts manual, I need #6(B-65711), #7(B-65712), and #11(B-65706) on page 9. Probably a shot in the dark but i'm at a loss here. The really interesting thing is that what i do have for gears does not match the parts manual i downloaded. The folks in Canada can make the parts from scratch but also confirmed that the design did change towards the end of the production run and do not have an updated part list. Does anyone have these? Maybe tell me where else i can look? Is there anyone that is parting out a 9" unit and be willing to sell me a used Feedbox?

Thanks,
Sal

i have an old 1950 12”x48” Utilathe. It’s a wonderful machine, but very hard to find parts for. Most of these lathes are in Canada. There is a very active Standard Modern used machinery dealer in Toronto, but I can not for the life of me, remember who they are. Maybe someone on the forum will add their name. Other than that, likely
you may have to have them made. Which brings up the issue why where the gears removed, and what else might be wrong with the machine? Usually major wear on one part of the machine is reflected in the other parts, as well. I guess I am suggestion doing triage early on to determine if the lathe is really worth the time and expense to repair. (I’ve gone through this with my utilathe, and ultimately decided to replace it withna second machine.)

Thanks Glen. Again, being new to this, I'm trying to find a solution. The gentleman that removed the Feedbox passed away so we don't know the real reason. When I looked at the box, all I could tell was that he was replacing one bearing(input side of the feedbox). Not knowing what the inside looked like, and it appeared all intact, I never noticed the missing two gears. I'm to green right now but learned a lot really quickly. I do hope someone knows the name of the place in Toronto!

All the best,
Sal

Sal Standard modern is now called Racer Machinery its in Cambridge Ont. , not far from Toronto 1-888-514-1661 Hope this helps Dave

Yep, I think Racer Machine is whom I ordered parts from previously. Good folks. If you call them, the owner will tell you all you need to know about the gear box. At least he did with my machine. Seemed to have an encyclopedic memory of every gear, shaft and screw.

Good luck,
Glenn

Hi Sal,

I have the parts you need if you still have the lathe?
