Getting in to a good set of hand files

Hmmm... I think I will have to look closely at that Vallorbe brand when I get time to chase this again. Thanks.

Got old files that won't cut anymore ?

Take a glass qt. jar and fill if with old battery acid.
Soak files over night. Rinse with baking soda and water.
Thay will cut like new.

I've heard that.

I don't have 'old' battery acid. Heck, the local fire department is getting fussy about even what kinds of paint thinners I can legally drop off for disposal. Do you happen to know if 'new' battery acid electrolyte is the exact same? For some reason I had it in my mind that 'topping up' fluid was a bit different (weaker) than the acid put in new cells. They list an SG, would that number confirm it? For the price of files vs. price of acid, it would be worth it. And the baking soda/water is to prevent corrosion I assume?

Tony, that set goes for almost $300.00, retail. Seller said it looks unused; if so, you got a great deal!
Yes, I got them, and were totally unused. I feel that I got a good score. What a nice collection of different shapes for detailed work, which without would be impossible. I definitely appreciated the hookup!

Lucas...prince of darkness...
So named for at least 2 reasons-
1. Failure at the most inconvenient times, as mentioned above.
2. Difficult to repair with any confidence.
In my experience with British cars, and some, more modern, heavy equipment, it sure seemed to me that the original engineer must have carried a funny looking pitchfork :eek 2:
