I'm stumped... All I wanted to do was bore a small hole in some 1/2"square stock to make some tool holders.... Can't do with the factory 3 jaw chuck. Called Woodstock, no help.... Anybody know of a 5' 4 jaw scroll chuck that will fit.... OR what have you done???... IF I need to change chuck sizes to get the 4 jaw setup I will. Naturally price will be a consideration

Thanks, gentlemen..... My ignorance shows (never knew about the rd. to sq. collets from Shars). The Sieg machnine is just painted a different color than the ShopFox.. I'm just thinking?, maybe just change to the 4 jaw scroll set up?....That's the same adjusting faceplate setup. that's on the ShopFox.

It looks like your lathe has a bolt-thru flange mount so to put a different chuck you need one with that same mounting style- I would ask Woodstock if they sell extra spare backplates or if you need to buy a complete chuck from them.
Alternately, one could also fabricate your own back plate from scratch and buy an inexpensive 4-jaw chuck to go with it (such as Shars)
Seems like that would be an easier project than making a backplate for a threaded-spindle lathe, but I could be wrong
mark
ps the flange mount you have is an advantage in that you can reverse without worrying about the chuck coming loose, although the lathe may not be capable of reversing the way it's currently wired
pss don't buy a 4-jaw scroll chuck- only useful for a narrow range of work- get an independent

4 Jaw 5'' K12-125 Lathe Chuck Self Centering Hardened Steel CNC Milling 125mm

4 jaw adjustable chuck installed... Up and running. EZ.... trust me, I'm no machinist. I'd about given up on my quest for a 5" x 4 jaw self adjusting chuck which would fit the Shop Fox 1016 series, odd face plate/backing plate adjustable set up. I had gathered some specs from the "stock" 3 jaw set up. I found several that might work on E-Bay, they ranged in price from about $175.00 shipped to $70.00 shipped. I got NO help from the importer but did get some from a seller on E-BAY (sizes). The SAN OU 5" chuck was listed with a "make an offer" box , so I offered $70.00 and free shipping, (seller accepted this offer). The info suggested that it MAY fit and I was frustrated at this point!. gamble paid off!. Near perfect fit .. I had to substitute hex head metric bolts instead of the included allen type screws as the allen's socket heads were too long and would not let the face plates/ backing plate compress fully. I did file the tops of the bolts till I had .001 clearance "just in case" as I added wavy washer to the bolts for some reason?... The seller "anglestore" has sold 39 of these 4 jaw self adjusting chucks so there must be a market for this item... All I wanted to do was NOT to be limited to just turning round stock... I've bored some 1/2" sq. stock to hold my round boring bars... OH ya...
