Verify O/A setup - Need a double-check

They are all green for o2, argon is brown, CO2 gray, acetylene is black, standard colors...and many people would love to have something that you just got rid of. They also have a 15 year expiration for the hydro-static pressure test with a date that they all have.

Bottles ,even BBQ propane ones, are 10 years in Canada. So unless you "purchase" a company bottle, you get stuck with a test . I had a 20# propane one recertified, and filled, it cost me $51 , a new filled was $47. The most common around here,Air Liquide are black and red.

Out here ,cylinder rental is one monumental ripoff...........i returned mine years ago...............we have BOC,they own everything ,and charge like $250 /yr rental.......Funny thing is the popular mechanic size costs twice the rental of the twice as big industrial size.Guy was telling me he recieved a bill for extra rental just after getting a new cylinder full of gas,so not likely to send it back......Various hardwares here have cylinder "purchase "schemes, but read the fine print, and its just another form of rental.......and if you cant find the docket.no cylinder refund.($200)

OK, once you got it all set up, oxy pressure around 12, acet pressure around 5, turn on and light acet, observe the smoke coming from the tip of the yellow flame, turn up acet till the smoke JUST dissapears, then turn on ox and bring cone back to torch with a rounded cone tip= neutral flame for welding or brazing. Too much heat? smaller nozzle, to little heat, go bigger. You cannot increase the heat by adding more acet!!! For brazing you will need clean metal, borax flux, and plain or fluxed rods. heat the work to dull red and apply flux, heat rod tip and dip in flux, apply a blob of braze to job, and heat job till braze runs over the surface like solder, add more till job is done. If you are using ready fluxed rods you only need to flux the work at the start, then just feed in the rod. If it doesnt run like solder, it is not clean enough, or not hot enough or both! If it spits and boils off the job, its too hot! practice!
